What is GNH?

Gross National Happiness (GNH) is Bhutan's policy framework for development, first articulated by the Fourth King in 1979 and operationalised as the GNH Index by the Centre for Bhutan Studies from 2008 onward. It spans nine domains and 33 indicators measured through periodic GNH Surveys (2010, 2015, 2022).
